Dear visitors,

As a gentle giant horse owner, and an art enthusiast, I found inspiration in the form, spirit and heart of the horse. I draw horses over and over, developing perspective and competency.

In Coeur d'Alene, Idaho we have a group of sculptors who meet weekly to sculpt figures and busts. On a given evening, we will draw figures, and then the next night, we will sculpt. This steady focus enabled me to discover that my joy was in drawing and sculpting.

"Drawing is sculpting." I draw to enhance my sculpting. Especially for horses. Drawing is very helpful in capturing their spirit, and to help with understanding the light values and textures that come in to play.

I study anatomy relentlessly to give my work integrity, truth and beauty. I have six Shire Draft horses; we call them "Gentle Giants." I shoe my own horses and train them from the "ground up." To train them, we use the Trust and Reward system. We find that our horses give us much more because they "trust" us fully.

I continue to take classes and learn about sculpture to sharpen my skills.

It is also nice to have live models for drawing and sculpting on your own ranch at StillwaterShires.com.

My study is located in Sagle, Idaho just north of Coeur d´ Alene. Kaye and I love to have visitors come and enjoy the "Gentle Giants" for hay or sleigh rides. We have family sleigh rides and parties at Stillwater Ranch each year along with parades and horse shows.

Sincerly,

Bryan K Ross
